About the Image:
It was a very cold and windy day on Ballycastle Beach. I was hoping to see some thick stratocumulus clouds producing and holding lots of snow, this kind of clouds are called nimbostratus. These are more individual in nature, have flat bottoms and nice rounded tops, and grow vertically and with this verticality means they can pick up some great highlights from the setting sun. When picking this composition I wanted to guide the viewer's eye up through the image from the centred lines created by the rock in the bottom third of the image. Directing the viewer's eye to the Pans Rocks Bridge, that is backlit by the setting sun in the centre of the photograph. Moving up to the large fast-moving nimbostratus clouds saturated with red and yellow by sunset and reflected by the sea and ties everything in the image together.
About 'Coordinates°’
'Coordinates°’ is an epic collection of vistas set around the North Coast all images are titled with the precise longitude and latitude from where it was taken. If you type the coordinate number into google you will get directions which will allow you to go and see the location for yourself. My background is as a printmaker so instead of using one static shot of an image or limiting myself to one exposure, I use multiple images taken over sometimes 5hrs of the same scene and combine these images to create the magical compositions you see today.
People respond to the magical and creative nature of this work, the stars, the sea, the use of colour and composition.
